The other day I was working on a candle holder, that is going to be an Xmas present for someone (can’t say who, they might be listening :P).
As I was thinning and stretching the candle cups I noticed something strange begin to happen. The piece was a dull red and cooling. With each blow of the hammer, the metal would flash to a bright orange. I was hammering so hard and so fast that to metal was actually getting hotter under the hammer!
I’ve only seen this happen on three occasions before, once in a video by Uri Hofi, once in a demo by one of my teachers, and once with a friend of mine and I. (we hammered a piece of 1/2 square from cold to cherry, but that’s another story)
I guess there really is a reason some people call me Thor!
Magnus and I this weekend are planning on photographing some more of the work that we’ve been doing this weekend! Hope to have it up by Sunday!
lollingaboot asked: I was thinking the twisted metal sort that sits around the neck with maybe raven decorations on the tips? I could probably find an example with something similar somewhere… (moved it to another ask so it would be easier to find.)
We’ll try and come up with a basic design, figure out the cost and tell you an estimate. :)
